In the Dark...

Born in the underground kingdom of the dark elves her kind like so many other races were considered mere fiction by the humans. This as with so many supernatural creatures was not true. More than stories to be told they exist in secret. Much of what ma knows to be true is pure fantasy the truth of the world so much more than they will ever know. Her kind not to be confused with drows though many do decided to live underground when they turned from the Gods of light towards those of the dark.Dark elves not wanting to be polluted by outsiders tend to keep to themselves and b secretive having many things in common with drows often led to the confusion.

She was born one of seven kids into a peasant family. Her twin brother Aryos and her were always together. Her family for the most part were content with their lives as long as they had enough to eat and shelter they didn't need more. They struggled sometimes but they didn't seek to become more. Except for her twin. He wanted more and on some levels so did she. Not as much as he did he wanted to rise as high as he could. He pushed himself while she didn't necessarily want to be top ranks she didn't want to struggle either. So, she understood his desires.

Call of Discord...

And it seemed he would get his wish when the high priest of discord took notice of him. He saw the boy had a destiny and it was to someday take his place. So, he asked his family if he could take him to train him. The high priest being one of the highest positions in their world some say as high as king was not to be ignored. Thus they agreed and her brother left to begin his training. Training that he excelled at. He quickly rose learning everything he could. This worried the king and the high priest both fearing that Aryos was going to be stronger than either of them.

The king and the high priest were corrupt and often disregarded the laws of Discord himself if it suited them. The High Priest encouraged him to remain in contact with his family but mostly because of Cairel whom even from a young age he had an eye on. When she came to visit her brother he would do things to her despite the fact all signs pointed to her belonging to the future high priest of the God himself. She began to go slowly insane and heard the voice of Discord who said she was his and not the priest. That her future was not for such a man to determine. He told her that her brother would be the future.

The king and the high priest began to believe they couldn't control Ayros and that made him dangerous. He might undo all that they had earned for themselves. However, try as they might they couldn't come up with a way to destroy him. It occurred to them that his sister was someone h would do anything for so they hatched a plan.

A Plot Unfolds...

First they hired a girl to become his lover to make him fall for her. Whether she was forced or paid to be Ayros lover Cairiel never knew. She only knew she was part of the plan one she came to learn too late. They set it up for her brother to find the high priest raping her. Believing he would attack him and could be punished. However, Aryos killed the priest something they thought he couldn't do. Her brother was rushed off to stand trial before the king. Despite her fractured mind she believed her brother would be cleared because of the high priest having hurt her. It was then she was pulled aside and in her broken state told she had to lie or her brother would be put to death.

They told her that his lover was going to say that Ayros had held her captive and done things and he killed the high priest because he wanted his title and he found out about her brother's crime. That many would claim this and if she went along they would see to it that he was only stripped of his position and sent back home. He would live though not as he had. She thought it wasn't so bad he could rise again or just live a quiet life. He would be mad at her but once she explained it it would be fine.

However, when the sentence was passed it was exile. The king's men had lied to her and she couldn't fight it. It all happened so fast he was drug off and people seemed happy. She was lost in her own mind and guilt slipping further away. That even when her brother returned she said nothing. In part because she believed she deserved what she got and without her brother she had let herself go into the dark going through the motions.

Her brother returned killed the king and locked her and his lover up. Making sure they could see the monster that he had become. She also had a child a little girl who looked like her. She hide the child from everyone giving her to an old friend that lived on the outskirts hoping she would never be found. In time Cairiel escaped from her brother and wandered the world. Her daughter being found caused her to come back despite her mental state to save her daughter from whatever her brother might have planned for her.
